Triumph Twin Performance EFI Tune Download

Twin Power Performance EFI Tunes
"release the potential of your modifications"

Drawing on the experience gained with our successful igniter re-programming of the carb'd twins, we have a process for downloading our performance tunes to the EFI ECM, off the bike.

We have dyno developed a range of tunes for the EFI twins that will correct your air/fuel ratio and optimise your ignition with the Twin Power advance curve for owners who have carried out engine modifications. The official Triumph tunes, (e.g. Arrow 2-2, 2-1 and Aftermarket pipe) are fine if you’ve only replaced your silencers, but if you’ve carried out any airbox mods, they will leave your engine running hot with a lean mixture and reduced power. Through experience we have seen that using the OEM tunes after induction and exhaust mods, leaves a fuelling condition where the potential peak power improvement can be reduced by up to 80% due to a weak mixture.

Our tunes have been developed using the free flowing DNA air filters and pods to give the very best possible torque and power all the way to the re-programmed rev limiter. Any other filter/pods may run rich with our tunes and won't release all the full potential power. We disable the lambda sensors (stainless blanking plugs supplied with order) for smoother running at smaller throttle openings.

These are the different airbox configurations we have developed tunes for:
  1. Snorkel removed and using a free flowing filter.
  2. Modified airbox cover/bellmouth with free flowing filter.
  3. Modified airbox cover/bellmouth, airbox baffle removed with free flowing filter.
  4. Airbox carved or Airbox elimination kit fitted with free flowing pod filters.
We have matched these airbox configurations with many types of exhaust system/silencer. Just choose the engine configuration from the lists below that is the closest match to your own, place an order and follow the shipping instructions on your receipt before you ship your ECM to Twin Power.

N.B. The Keihin ECM used for the Triumph twins needs to be unlocked before modifications can be made. This is the case whether you’re modifying a tune yourself on a dyno or we’re downloading a performance tune to your ECM. Therefore if your ECM has not been unlocked previously, there is a one off TuneBoy unlock key charge. Once bought, this key will allow access to your ECM indefinitely.

**This is a performance modification and will void your Triumph warranty**

The Triumph twins use narrow band Lambda sensors to adjust the AFR (air/fuel ratio). Their job is to let the ECM know whether the engine is running at an air/fuel ratio of 14.7:1 under idle, light acceleration, and slow cruise conditions, and if it isn't, to “trim” the injector pulse-width to either slightly lean or slightly richen the mixture. When the ECM is paying attention to the input from the O2 sensor, the engine is operating in a “closed-loop” capacity. Under heavier acceleration or wide-open throttle the ECM ignores the O2 sensor because it requires an air/fuel ratio richer than 14.7:1, which is outside the design parameters of the narrow band sensor. This is known as “open-loop” operation. The sensor lets the ECM know if the engine is running above or below 14.7:1 by sending voltage to the ECM in a range between 0 and 1 volt, usually sweeping between the two extremes of this scale. To summarize, a narrow band O2 sensor is only able to tell the ECM if the engine is operating above or below a 14.7:1 air/fuel ratio.

Our twins use “closed loop” operation at throttle openings under 6%, this enables Triumph to get the EFI air cooled twins through the strict manufacturers exhaust emission testing. In real life riding situations, this makes the throttle control at smaller openings a real pain and many owners describe it as rough and snatchy. This situation gets worse the more you open up the air box as the system struggles to keep the mixture correct and fights changes made to the fuel maps. Eventually with bored throttle bodies and pod filters the engine is running lean enough that it spits back through the induction system when slow speed cruising.

Twin Power disable the lambda sensors electronically for all our performance tunes. Using this method, the sensors can be removed completely and stainless steel plugs with copper washers are supplied for the exhaust down pipes. With the sensors removed, the ECM runs in “open loop” operation and takes its fuelling information from the adjustable fuel maps embedded in its memory. We have found that by disabling the sensors we can programme much smoother throttle control using the fuel tables without the conflict of the Lambda sensors trying to change the fuelling to how they perceive it should be.

To have a Twin Power tune downloaded to your EFI ECM is quite simple.

  • Place an order with us specifying your engine setup.
  • Remove the seat from your bike.
  • Disconnect your battery terminals.
  • Disconnect the grey and the black plugs from your ECM.
  • Unclip the battery strap and slide the ECM out from behind the battery.
  • Follow the shipping instructions on your order receipt.
  • Place a copy of your order in with your well packaged ECM. We recommend an insured signed for shipping method.
  • Ship to Twin Power at the address on your receipt.
To minimize your downtime, we process and ship your EFI ECM back to you within 3 business days of receipt.
  • Twin Power receives your shipped EFI ECM
  • We download a performance tune to your ECM which is determined by the engine specifications given on your order.
  • The adaptive settings on your ECM are reset so the new tune can adapt to your local conditions.
  • Any error codes in the ECM are reset.
  • Your ECM is packaged and returned to you by insured shipping.
  • You receive your ECM and fit it to your bike. Don't forget to reconnect the grey and black connectors to your ECM before reconnecting the battery.
Put on your gear, go for a blast and enjoy riding your Triumph twin with the knowledge that your bike is running in good tune.
